Say the word 'Brazilian' and eyebrows automatically get raised. Add the word 'Blowout' and guess what else gets raised...(the other eyebrow, of course)! What were you thinking?

Considered a miracle by everyone who's been 'blown', the Brazilian Blowout is a hair smoothing (not straightening) treatment loved by Hollywood stars including Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Aniston (the hair queen herself). It's no wonder too, since it only takes 90 minutes flat to get from frizzy and damaged to shiny and sleek, with absolutely no down time at all.
So how does it work exactly, and is it for you? After trying it out for myself at the Philip George Salon a couple weeks ago, here are some frequently asked questions about the Brazilian Blowout answered by yours truly:
Who is the best candidate for the Brazilian Blowout?
For the best and most obvious results, anyone with frizzy, damaged or over-processed hair should do the BB.
How is the Brazilian Blowout different from Japanese straightening perms?
Japanese straightening perms change the actual structure of the hair, leaving it flat, dull and often times too straight. On the other hand, think of the Brazilian Blowout as wrapping each strand of hair with a protective layer, smoothing it without taking away your natural volume.
What will my hair look like afterwards?
Your hair will be shiny, sleek and frizz-free, but with lots of body and bounce. You'll still be able to curl your hair or straighten it on special occasions, but on a daily basis, you'll wake up with beautiful hair that looks like you've just set it.

How does the whole process work?
First, the hair is washed multiple times to get it "squeaky" clean. Next, smoothing solution is applied to damp hair using an applicator brush and fine-toothed comb, and then blow dried completely. After that, the hair is flat-ironed, section by section to seal in the keratin (pictured below) and then rinsed out with water. A mask is applied for about 1 minute, followed by a small amount of smoothing serum, and then the hair was blow dried for the final time. Voila, super straight hair that smells berrylicious (thanks to the Acai berries in the product)!

How long do the results last?
The Brazilian Blowout can last up to 12 weeks if the Acai After-Care Maintenance products are used, which is highly recommended and mandatory in my opinion. I mean, if you are going to spend money on the Brazilian Blowout, you'll probably want to do anything in your power to make it last as long as possible!

How much does it cost and where can I get it done?
The treatment is priced between HK$1,500 and HK$3,500 depending on the length of the hair. Many salons in Hong Kong now offer the Brazilian Blowout including Hair Culture, Headquarters, Toni & Guy, il Colpo, and more. Call +852 3796 6225 for more info.

Overall, I highly recommend the Brazilian Blowout for anyone with frizzy, dry and unruly hair. Although my hair was quite healthy to begin with, I have never seen it as shiny as the day I had my treatment, and I couldn't help feeling like I was in a shampoo commercial as I walked down the street with my sleek and shiny hair swishing across my shoulders. With a hot and humid summer coming up, the Brazilian Blowout is definitely your best bet at keeping bad hair days at bay.
