Ever since their invention, watches have been regarded as symbols of taste and social status. At the same time, however, there has been a long-standing perception that the world of Haute Horlogerie is a playground reserved only for men — but this is the 21st century and that outdated way of thinking is no longer relevant.
Enter the eponymous Swiss watchmaker Richard Mille, which caters to modern-day women with discerning tastes and a demand for excellence. Recognising the needs of female watch enthusiasts, the brand is able to blend feminine elegance with superlative technical abilities. This is evident in two high-performance ladies’ timepieces — the automatic RM 07-01 and RM 037 — which are designed to meet your practical needs as well as your sophisticated sensibilities.
Highly recognizable for its curvaceous tonneau-shaped case, both the RM 07-01 and RM 037 are crafted from a combination of unique materials, including ATZ white or TZP black ceramic for the bezel and caseback, as well as satin 5N white or red gold for the caseband. The baseplates and bridges, meanwhile, are crafted from lightweight but resistant grade 5 titanium. The ceramic case, in particular, is known to be highly resistant to knocks and scratches, and comes in a matte surface finishing which, when paired with the inner dial featuring pavé diamonds, results in a radiant yet subtle elegance.
The automatic movements, meanwhile, feature a highly skeletonised design with rare black polishing. What’s more, they’re visible both underneath the inner dial and through the transparent caseback. While the RM 037 is equipped with calibre CRMA1 and the RM 07-01 houses calibre CRMA2, both movements are created in-house specifically for these timepieces, and both boost an impressive 50-hour power reserve, a significant achievement in the arena of watchmaking for women.
Featuring a wheel with a 20-degree pressure angle, both movements are designed to counter all discrepancies, caused by external factors such as changes in temperature or the wearer’s activity level, that might occur between the centre of each wheel. In a further effort to ensure the removal of external influences to the mechanism, a new patented stem-crown has been installed, replacing the classic crown designs that are usually connected to the heart of the movement. With this new tweak in the design, the integrity of the movements is guaranteed.
To offer a perfect demonstration of the powerful blend between contemporary elegance and intricate technicality, Richard Mille has invited the beautiful and talented Australian actress Margot Robbie to design a series of ladies’ watches for a charity collection that is set to debut in the near future, so watch this space to find out the latest details.
