The Bar Awards Bangkok has just ceased, and the accolade train is speeding right towards Singapore this weekend. As part of an initiative to celebrate the top contenders across Asia’s various bar industries, The Bar Awards Singapore has 10 different categories where your beloved bar can bag itself an award.
These include the Most Creative Cocktail Bar, Best Wine Experience, Best Beer Experience, and the coveted Bartender of the Year.
While the nominees are sweating it out before the results on 18 June, the weekend leading up to that is packed full of parties and guest shifts around the island’s hottest bars.
On 15 June, there will be a series of regional bartenders taking over the reins at various bars around the island. We’d suggest visiting Gibson to be wowed by the award-winning duo, Ann Pongprom and Jamie Rhind from The Bamboo Bar at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, or Tess Kitchen & Bar to sample some Hong Kong flair stirred up by Arkadiusz Rybak.
Come Saturday, it’s your chance to dunk a bartender at an outdoor barbecue party. Held at Camp Kilo Charcoal Club, the bar menu will be taken over by cocktails crafted from six regional bars — Neon Pigeon, Smoke & Mirrors, Coley, Zuma, Rabbit Hole, The Bamboo Bar. Drinks run at S$15 nett for the night. Give the dunking block a swing and send one of Singapore’s top bartenders down the hatch at just S$2. It’s for a good cause too, since all proceeds will be donated to charity.
If a barbecue is not your gig, guest shifts continue at Mitzo, Oxwell & Co, as well as Flagship. Everything ends off (or begins) at the Night Cap party organised by Skinny’s Lounge, starting at 1am. Expect lots of booze, treats, and the company of some of the industry’s most entertaining folks.
The weekend officially ends on Monday, with the closing party at newly-opened basement bar, Catchfly. Celebrate the results, and get your fuel tank in the green with cocktails mixed by guest bartenders such as Charmaine Thio from 28 HongKong Street, Rhyse Borland from Sugarhall and Jay Gray, the Monkey Shoulder Brand Ambassador for Southeast Asia. Party starts at 7pm.
