The ’80s style is staging a major revival this year, with power suits, fishnets tights, one-shoulder tops and activewear dominating designer runways and street style trends in recent months. However, it’s not the only thing that’s making a comeback from the era: Cartier is relaunching its Panthère de Cartier watch collection, an iconic ladies timepiece initially introduced in 1984, before its discontinuation in the early 2000s.
The newly resurrected Panthère de Cartier carries the “exuberant decadence of the decade”, but comes with a smoother silhouette that gives it an edgier appeal. Other features remain the same, including the signature square case, the visible screws on the bezel, Roman numerals, the railway track index, and the tiny Cartier logo embossed in the X digit that works to distinguish the piece from any counterfeits. The chain-link bracelet, meanwhile, is made stronger with integrated lugs and concealed folding clasps, allowing it to curl up comfortably on the wrist.
Available in small and medium sizes measuring 22mm and 27mm respectively, the new collection comes in a range of metal and/or finishes, including: steel, yellow gold, pink gold, two-tone yellow gold and steel, pink gold with a paved diamond bezel, white gold with a paved diamond bezel and white gold fully paved with brilliant-cut diamonds. Highlighted pieces include a white gold version embellished with brilliant-cut diamonds and black enamel spots, as well as a limited edition piece in pink gold with dial and links featuring black lacquer.
The collection ranges from HK$28,400 for the small model in steel, to an eye-watering HK$1,010,000 for the medium model in white gold with diamonds and panther spots. You can purchase the collection at Cartier boutiques across Hong Kong come June.
