Newly refurbished luxury motor yacht ‘Michelangelo’ is ready for your next sailing

Updated on March 6 2017

Sailing season has returned to Hong Kong, but if you’re looking for something with a little more character and history than the average white, sun-soaked luxury cruiser available for rental these days, consider a trip aboard the newly refurbished Michelangelo. This dark teak and mahogany beauty has been making loops around Hong Kong’s islands since 1994.

A touch of old-world glamour and charm for your next trip out on Hong Kong’s harbour.

Having just been restored in 2016, the 80-foot-long vessel is a classic motor yacht that can accommodate a party of up to 60 passengers, but also makes for a sensational cruise for a smaller group of close friends or for just you and your loved one. The dark wood look is complemented by brass and copper touches, creating a class, timeless look. It’s clear that a lot of thought went into the look of the boat, and indeed, the staircase that leads down into the cabins was rebuilt five times just to make sure it was perfect.

Despite its old-world look, it’s very well-equipped, capable of sailing up to 18 knots with its two 700hp Rolls Royce motors. The Michelangelo was also specially fitted out with brand new features last year. Upgrades include a new water purification system, underwater lights, a water heater and a new shower set in the ensuite bathroom. The whole vessel is also equipped with multi-zone air conditioning and heating, which means it’s available for you to cruise all year round. It’s also equipped with a karaoke system, and a DJ or jazz band is available on request. There’s also WiFi onboard, although we suggest putting down your phone to fully enjoy being out on the water.

The 80-foot-long luxury motor yacht was just refurbished last year.

Over its three decks, the Michelangelo spans 4,000 sq. ft., and fits a full kitchen, one master suite, a dining room, a mahogany-panelled living room and, of course, the essential sun deck — an impressive 400-sq.-ft. space made of gorgeous teak. The upper deck even has its own Bose stereo system. For a break from tanning, head to the partially covered stern, where banquette seating and steamer chairs create a relaxed area for cocktails and dining.

Sleep in Ralph Lauren for a night aboard the ‘Michelangelo’.

The stunning master cabin is fitted with a king-sized bed and Ralph Lauren sheets, which carry a classic, striped nautical theme. There are his and hers desks, a full ensuite bathroom and a walk-in-closet. There are also four other guest cabins: two doubles, a single and a bunk bed, sleeping a total of nine.

The mahogany dining area works well for casual or more formal occasions.

The main feature in the dining room is the elegant oval mahogany table, seating 10-12 guests, but the room can also be arranged into a buffet setting. Extending into the living room, newly reupholstered sofas and armchairs create a comfortable after-hours or daytime space for relaxing, which exudes an intimate, clubhouse-like feel.

The staff on board will take care of you well for each catered event.

The fully equipped kitchen works well for catering large gatherings, with silverware and tableware for up to 50 guests, but is also built with beautiful blue-marble countertops, porcelain and brass fixtures. Personalised menus can be created to match your preferences and itinerary, and you can even request for a private chef during your stay.

This Hong Kong-born-and-bred motor yacht (built right in Aberdeen Marina) is no stranger to its native waters, and offers seven scenic routes, from the popular southern beaches of Hong Kong Island to the most secluded sandy shores, venturing west beyond Cheung Chau Island to Sai Kung and the islands dotting Clearwater Bay. Guests can choose a predetermined route or build their own customised itineraries. Best of all, The Michelangelo can also dock overnight anywhere for the ultimate staycation.
